NEW YORK, 12 October 2016 – In the lead-up to both TEFAF New York at the Park Avenue Armory and Fall Market 2016 at the Decoration & Design Building, the public exhibitions for Sotheby’s annual autumn auctions of furniture and decorative arts are now open in our York Avenue galleries.

Collections: European Decorative Arts will present English and European furniture spanning the 17th to 19th centuries alongside ceramics, tapestries, rugs and more, predominantly emerging from public and private collections. Collections: Silver, Vertu, Ceramics, and Russian Works of Art offers a superb selection of American, European and English silver and vertu, ceramics and Russian works of art. Highlights from both sales carry royal and distinguished provenance, from the historically- important set of four Empire stools from the Palais des Tuileries, to the spectacular Spanish Colonial silver tureen, cover and stand circa 1780-90 – one of the largest items of early secular silver known from the period in Guatemala.

Together, the 800+ lots on offer from 18 – 20 October include pieces at every price point, from $1,000 to over $100,000 – making this the perfect opportunity for both new and established collectors and designers to acquire notable works for the home. The exhibitions for Sotheby’s Collections sales have been designed in collaboration with English paint and wallpaper company Farrow & Ball, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Sotheby’s specialists have selected furniture, decorative art and antiques from the upcoming sales and created fresh, unexpected vignettes using the firm’s newest wallpapers. Their richly-saturated hues and bold patterns provide compelling backdrops for the works on offer.
