NEW YORK, 20 April 2018 – Following the tremendous success of part one this March in Hong Kong, Sotheby’s is delighted to present the second and final auction of wines from The Cellar from the Estate of Jerry Perenchio on 19 May in New York. One of the most superb collections of mature wines ever to appear at auction, Mr. Perenchio’s cellar is characterized by both its impressive quality and quantity of legendary wines from the finest producers, including some of the rarest and greatest vintages from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Leroy and de Vogüé in Burgundy, and Pétrus and all of the other First Growths from Bordeaux. In addition, the second sale also features many decorative wine accessories from Mr. Perenchio’s collection, including goblets, sommelier tastevins, ceramic casks and cut glass decanters. The New York sale is expected to achieve $2.6/3.6 million this May.

A renowned entrepreneur whose business acumen and extraordinary work ethic led him to negotiate some of the biggest events in entertainment history, Mr. Perenchio was guided by his famed 20 “Rules of the Road” throughout his decades-long career, which culminated with his acquisition of Univision Communications and subsequent sale 15 years later in 2007 for $13.5 billion. Mr. Perenchio was also a generous philanthropist who, most often anonymously, donated to numerous artistic, educational and charitable institutions throughout Los Angeles.

On 30 March in Hong Kong, Sotheby’s first sale of wines from Mr. Perenchio’s cellar totaled HK$52.8 million / US$6.7 million, doubling pre-sale expectations (estimate HK$19.7-27.5 million / US$2.5-3.5 million), with 100% of lots sold. All net proceeds from the Hong Kong and New York sales will benefit the Perenchio Foundation, whose principal mission will be to support visual and performing arts programs and institutions in Los Angeles. Separate release available.

DISCOVER THE LEGENDARY CELLAR OF JERRY PERENCHIO“Following the outstanding results from the first auction in Hong Kong, we are excited to present this second offering of exceptional wines from the cellar from The Estate of Jerry Perenchio. Last month, we witnessed extraordinary enthusiasm from many of the world’s leading collectors who tried to secure wines for their cellars. With the New York auction, these collectors, as well as many more from North and South America, will have the opportunity to buy wines from this historic collection. This is an auction that should not be missed by wine collectors, connoisseurs and drinkers.”

Jamie Ritchie, Worldwide Head of Sotheby’s Wine“My father, Jerry Perenchio, had a true passion for the best, including exceptional wines. He had a wonderful life with few regrets, but one he shared with me is that he would have enjoyed savoring the remaining contents of his cellar with family and friends. Though I offered to take over that “chore” on his behalf, I am proud to announce that he chose instead to auction his wine and have all proceeds benefit the Perenchio Foundation, whose principal mission will be to support visual and performing arts programs and institutions in Los Angeles.”
