NEW YORK (2 July 2019) – Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s have announced the offering of a 2006 Ford GT through their Online Only collector car auction series. The third automobile in the single-lot series to be offered on Sotheby's newly developed digital auction platform, the highly-desirable, all-American supercar is open for bidding as of 2 July at 11:00 am EDT, just in time for the American Independence Day holiday, and will run through 11 July at 12:00 pm EDT. Offered without reserve, the Ford GT is estimated to bring $280,000 - $340,000.

A modern homage to Ford’s racing heritage, the GT celebrates the highly successful GT40 program of the 1960s, with which Ford won Le Mans an impressive four consecutive times. Produced just for the 2005 and 2006 model years, only 4,033 examples of the retro-styled Ford supercar were built. Powered by a 5.4-liter DOHC V-8 engine featuring a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger, the GT is rated at 550 hp and 500 foot-pounds of torque. The engine is paired to Ricardo six-speed manual transmission featuring a helical limited-slip differential. This driveline allows the Ford to achieve a 205 mph top speed and a 0–60 time of 3.3 seconds.

The stunning four-option 2006 Ford GT set for Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s Online Only auction is one of 327 finished in Red with full white racing stripes. The additional options include red painted brake calipers, forged alloy BBS wheels, and upgraded McIntosh radio. The as-new GT is offered from single ownership and shows a mere 11.7 miles. Stored and carefully maintained from new, this original, well-preserved example is accompanied by manuals, an air compressor, and a car cover with a bag.

The Ford GT has remained highly sought after on the second-hand market since its release and carries the distinct honor of being one of few cars to have never dropped in value below its original MSRP – a true testament to its stunning design, extraordinary performance, and outstanding collectability. The Ford GT is what it set out to be, “The Pace Car for an Entire Company.”

Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s Online Only platform delivers the concierge-level service that both Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s are known for, providing clients with an honest assessment of the cars on offer via pre-purchase inspections and specialist condition reports that the companies stand behind, through to buyer transportation and the final transaction. In-person viewing and inspection of the Ford GT is available at RM Sotheby’s Stuart, Florida facilities. Extensive photography, documentation, and the pre-purchase inspection are available at sothebys.com. RM Sotheby’s conditions of business apply to the Online Only sales.
