NEW YORK, 23 October 2020 – Following the success of our livestreamed sales this week in Paris and London, Sotheby’s is pleased to debut the full auction contents of our upcoming marquee Contemporary and Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sales in New York. The auctions will be livestreamed to the world on 28 October in Sotheby’s signature digital format, pioneered this summer, as well as through Cheddar, the leading post-cable news, media, and entertainment company.

The digital catalogues for both sales are now live on sothebys.com, featuring enhanced visual storytelling through video, interactive media, and more rich content. Press releases detailing highlights from each auction are attached here.

The exhibitions for both auctions are on view now through 27 October in Sotheby’s New York galleries, open by appointment only. Watch a virtual gallery tour guided by Sotheby’s specialists here.

Immediately preceding the Evening Sales, Sotheby’s will livestream a special 30-minute pre-show program hosted by bestselling author and Peabody Award-winning radio host Kurt Andersen, with The New Yorker’s Adam Gopnik, Digital Strategist JiaJia Fei, Amy Cappellazzo, Sotheby’s Chairman, Global Fine Arts, and more. The program will preview highlights from both auctions, and explore timely issues from the wider world of art and culture. The pre-show will be streamed at 5:30PM EDT on sothebys.com, Facebook and YouTube.

Sotheby’s will hold its Day Sales of Contemporary and Impressionist & Modern Art in mid-November, and will present additional marquee sales of Contemporary and Impressionist & Modern Art in New York in early December.

In addition to these upcoming auctions, Sotheby’s is presenting In Confidence: A Masterpiece by Alberto Giacometti – a “sealed bid” private sale offering of the artist’s monumental Grande femme I. The sale is open for confidential bidding now through 27 October. Grande femme I is one of a series of four monumental female figures, each standing approximately nine-feet tall, which Giacometti created for an unrealized outdoor sculpture installation in Chase Manhattan Plaza in New York. A lifetime cast created in 1960, the sculpture is the finest and grandest in scale by Giacometti to come to market since the record-breaking sale of L'homme au doigt in 2015.
