December 2, 2015, (Miami, FL) - X Contemporary celebrated its inaugural edition with a VIP Opening Night Preview and Vernissage on December 1, 2015 in Miami’s historic Wynwood Arts District. Guests explored the tented pavilion enjoying a first look at modern and contemporary work presented by 30 national and international exhibitors.Kicking off with an exclusive party in the fair’s “Living Room” lounge, X Contemporary VIP enjoyed music by The Misshapes and Kissey, beverages served by Concrete Beach Brewery, Vita Coco, Aquafina and SoBe, as well as a give-away of limited edition MuyMuy hats, courtesy of À la Mexique, a fashion collaboration by SPƎNGLISH (ñ).
Exhibitors indicated high optimism for the week with numerous connections made and a number of sales confirmed with galleries. Pamela Willoughby reported the sale of Hush’s “Saint” piece, which sold for $100,000. BOSCAR, artist duo Vicky Steckel and Ward Stegerhoek, reported the sale of “Feminine Mystic 3”, a monumental C-Print on Plexiglass. In the Michael Klein LLC booth, Director Michael Klein was delighted with the response from fairgoers, receiving many offers to purchase works by Grace Hartigan from 1960-1965, which are on view but not for sale. The artist’s niece, Donna Seesee, was also in attendance. Nicole Longnecker Gallery received a similarly warm response to the artwork of Larry Bell.
X Contemporary is now open to the general public through Saturday December 6, with special programming and events scheduled throughout.
