NEW YORK (24 May 2019) – Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s launched a new series of online-only, single-lot automobile auctions with the sale of a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 for a final $92,000 in the first Online Only collector car auction ending on 23 May. Offered without reserve, the Austin-Healey well-surpassed its pre-sale estimate of $60,000-$70,000. Offered through Sotheby's newly developed digital auction platform, the car drew strong global bidding activity from day one of the nearly two-week auction. Beautifully restored by marque specialists and fully sorted, the numbers-matching Austin-Healey joins its new owner presented in its original combination of Ivory White over black, true to the way it left the factory, save for a couple of tasteful modifications.

Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s continue the Online Only collector car auction series with a 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, now live at sothebys.com. Estimated to be one of just 963 produced, the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is finished in very desirable black with a black convertible top, color-matched removable hardtop, and an interior likewise upholstered in full black leather. The all-black color combination is accented by factory wheels with Porsche center caps and yellow painted calipers. The car presents very well throughout and shows just 13,400 miles on the odometer. With its rear engine design and all-wheel-drive application, it is capable of reaching 60 mph in less than four seconds, with a top speed of 190 mph. This model marks the final Turbo S Cabriolet available with a proper six-speed manual transmission, making it a true driver’s car, as the 911 was meant to be.

Bidding for the Porsche is now open and will run through 3 June 2019 at 12:00 pm EDT. The Online Only platform delivers the concierge-level service that both Sotheby’s and RM Sotheby’s are known for, providing clients with an honest assessment of the cars on offer via pre-purchase inspections and specialist condition reports that the companies stand behind, through to buyer transportation and the final transaction. In-person viewing and inspection of the Porsche car is available at RM Sotheby’s Stuart, Florida facilities. Extensive photography, documentation, and the pre-purchase inspection are available at sothebys.com. RM Sotheby’s conditions of business apply to the Online Only sales.
