Simon Tovey, Specialist, Head of Day Sale, Modern & Contemporary Art, said, “We are pleased with today’s robust result of £8.9 million, capping off an energised Frieze Week here in London and bringing the combined Modern & Contemporary Art Evening and Day Sales total to £24 million. The auction began with a lively bidding war for Daisy Parris’ A Poem, which sold for over four times its presale estimate. Noteworthy prices were also achieved for KAWS, with two of the artist’s works far surpassing their estimates and taking the lead in the top ten. We were thrilled to see pieces by Per Kirkeby, Richard Prince, and Takashi Murakami feature in the top ten. Building on the momentum from our evening sale, the energy was palpable in the room today, with spirited bidding from participants across 51 countries. These strong results reflect not only the enduring confidence collectors have in Phillips but also the continued strength of the London art market and the resilience of the middle market. We now look forward to our upcoming Modern & Contemporary Art sales in New York on 19 and 20 November.”
