NEW YORK, 5 April 2018 – Sotheby’s is honored to announce that we will present A Collection That We Dreamt Of: Art and Design from the Homes of Delphine and Reed Krakoff in a dedicated auction in New York on the evening of 23 May 2018.

Collected by the celebrated designers over the course of nearly two decades, the pieces on offer have lived in one or more of the Krakoffs’ impeccably-designed residences including: their New York City townhouse; the famed Lasata estate in East Hampton; the sprawling Clark House in New Canaan, Connecticut; and their historic 18th-century home in Paris.

The evening auction will offer an encyclopedic range of works by leading artists and designers spanning centuries of genres and styles, all seamlessly united by Delphine and Reed’s sophisticated taste, their shared approach to collecting, and the superlative quality of the works themselves. The auction will offer pieces by Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, Diego Giacometti, Jean Royère, Harry Bertoia, Jean-Michel Frank, Charlotte Perriand, Mattia Bonnetti and Damien Hirst – among many others – and with pieces ranging from 18th- and 19th-century American and French furniture to Pre-War, Post-War and Contemporary Design, Contemporary Art, and beyond. Sotheby’s will share further details on individual works from the sale later this month.

A natural extension of their best-selling book, Houses That We Dreamt Of: The Interiors of Delphine & Reed Krakoff, the collection will be on view in Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries this spring beginning 19 May.

FIRST LOOK: THE STUNNING COLLECTION OF DELPHINE AND REED KRAKOFFDelphine and Reed Krakoff remarked: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Sotheby’s on this sale of pieces that have brought us so much joy. Each of the homes that we have created together is an amalgam of our style at a particular point in time, in service of the needs of our family. As our lives and point of view has evolved, the desire to pass on parts of our collection has grown. We believe collecting is a transient process, constantly challenging our aesthetic choices. Our dialogue throughout the process is always a shared vision and we are excited to share this one in particular with collectors this May.”

DELPHINE AND REED KRAKOFF’S SHARED VISION OF LUXURYJodi Pollack, Co-Worldwide Head of Sotheby’s 20th Century Design Department, commented: “We are delighted to offer these exceptional works from the collection of two immensely creative visionaries. Delphine and Reed Krakoff’s unique and sophisticated approach to juxtaposing objects from different periods and genres demonstrates their exceptional taste and vision that transcends the expected boundaries of collecting and interior design. As some of these objects have moved from home to home, the dialogues that Delphine and Reed have created within each new space have continued to redefine these extraordinary pieces in unexpected ways. As we have seen in recent seasons, the palpable excitement within the global market for top-caliber design, coupled with the Krakoffs’ unmatched eye and taste, positon the sale as a “must-see” event for collectors of all genres. It is a sale like none other the market has seen before, one we have only dreamt about.”
