NEW YORK, 4 December 2019 – Sotheby’s is pleased to present highlights from our December sales of Important Design and Dreaming in Glass: Masterworks by Tiffany Studios, to be held in New York on 12 December 2019.

Featuring a curated survey of design masterworks from the last century, the Important Design auction will be anchored by an icon of modern architecture, Paul Rudolph's Walker Guest House (estimate $700,000/1 million), as well as an outstanding collection of works by Alexandre Noll, and important pieces by Jean Royère and Harry Bertoia. Additional highlights include an Important Chair by Carlo Mollino (estimate $100/150,000), masterpieces of French Modernism by Jean Prouvé and Line Vautrin, as well as contemporary design by Joris Laarman, Marc Newson, Martin Szekely and the Campana Brothers. A dedicated chapter of pre-war design comprises Art Nouveau masterworks from the private collection of renowned New York gallerists Lloyd and Barbara Macklowe, as well as important and rare works from the American Arts & Crafts movement. The dedicated offering of masterworks by Tiffany Studios will spotlight a wide variety of the firm’s iconic leaded glass lamps and objects emerging from esteemed private collections, including: a selection of works from the collection of Jeep and Carla Harned, highlighted by a magnificent “Fruit” Table Lamp presented with a rare “Turtle-Back” illuminated base (estimate $500/700,000); a masterful “Autumn Woodbine” Chandelier formerly in the esteemed collection of Eugene and Eleanor Gluck (estimate $300/500,000); and works from the private collection of Lloyd and Barbara Macklowe, featuring leaded glass lighting and an array of blown favrile glass vases.
