Sotheby’s Zurich – 11-13 April • Sotheby’s Geneva – 18-19 AprilZurich/Geneva, 7 March 2018 – Sotheby’s Switzerland is delighted to announce an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Ferdinand Hodler, arguably the country’s best-loved painter. Marking the centenary of the artist’s death in 1918, Sotheby’s will invite art-lovers to discover and enjoy a selection of works by the artist in our galleries. Echoing Hodler’s passion for the landscapes of both the German-speaking and French-speaking parts of the country, the exhibition will be unveiled in Zurich’s Talstrasse on the 11th of April, before travelling to Geneva’s rue François-Diday from the 18th to the 19th of April.

Sotheby’s Switzerland is delighted to join the international celebration of Ferdinand Hodler’s oeuvre, with exhibitions being held in Swiss and European museums. Further details of the works to be shown will be announced in due course.

Co-Directors for Swiss Art at Sotheby’s, Stéphanie Schleining and Urs Lanter, commented, “The name Ferdinand Hodler is practically synonymous with the success of our sales of Swiss Art at Sotheby’s. We are proud to have set the world auction record in 2007, which still stands over a decade later, and has allowed us to sell a number of other important works by this seminal Swiss painter, both at auction and privately. We are very pleased to be able to mark the centenary of his death alongside major art institutions, by hosting an exhibition in honour of his life and work.”
