London Art Week has partnered up with Cromwell Place, the recently-opened exhibition space in South Kensington, to hold a satellite Showcase. A special group exhibition will be held from 2-9 July in a dedicated room, which will feature a selection of works from a variety of LAW dealers in addition to their own gallery-based shows. Stephen Ongpin Fine Art will also have an additional exhibition at Cromwell Place.

This year's London Art Week will be held in a dual format, with exhibitions taking place in participating galleries all over London and around Europe as well as on the digital platform from 2-16 July 2021. LAW offers the best paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and objects, dating from Antiquity to the 21st Century currently on the art market. This year the leading international galleries and auction houses are not just showing highlights in the traditional art centre of St. James’s and Mayfair, but also in locations spanning Richmond to Holland Park, Bloomsbury to Soho, and for the first week in the new art hub in Kensington.

Cromwell Place opened in October 2020 in the heart of South Kensington's museum district within five Grade II listed Victorian townhouses. It's the first-of-its-kind exhibition and working place housing 15 unique gallery spaces, permanent and shared offices, open-desks, meeting rooms and viewing rooms, and an exclusive Club Room as part of the Membership organisation offering. Some of the world’s most exciting galleries, collectors, dealers and advisors are among its members with their specialties ranging from Antiquities and Old Masters through to the 19th Century.

Amelia Higgins, LAW Director, says: "We are delighted to be partnering with Cromwell Place this year. We feel that both organisations have similar aims in bringing pre-contemporary art to the attention of a new generation of collectors. It's a great opportunity for all our participants to show one work each in a combined exhibition, which underlines the spirit of London Art Week. My favourite highlights are a beautiful landscape by Algernon Cecil Newton from Agnews and Raccanello Leprince are showing a stunning Maiolica charger from the Medici Grand Ducal workshop."

Among the highlights on view at the Showcase is Valerio Castello's Lot and his daughters (Benappi Fine Art), which used to be part of Lady Louisa Ashburton's (1827-1903) collection displayed just down the road in her house in Knightsbridge and was famously shown in the RA exhibition, Italian Art and Britain, in 1960. James Mackinnon will be showing a Delacroix drawing, Bowman Sculpture is including an Auguste Rodin sculpture called L'Éternel Printemps (Eternal Spring) and Galerie Canesso is sending its highlight painting, Agrippina departing for Rome with the ashes of Germanicus by François de Nomé (1593 - c. 1640). The William Weston Gallery is bringing a lithograph by Alan Jones from 1966 titled A Fleet of Buses. London Bus, while Stephen Ongpin Fine Art are showcasing a drawing by Pablo Picasso, Artist and Model (Le peintre et son modèle I).

May Calil, Membership Director at Cromwell Place adds: “This satellite Showcase by London Art Week - its first physical exhibition and a partnership between over 30 participating galleries - really chimes with the cornerstones of Cromwell Place; collaboration, community, and a new approach to presenting art. We are thrilled to be a venue partner for LAW, and host such an eclectic collection of works, from paintings and drawings, through to sculptures and objects. We are excited by the breadth of works and dealers represented in this exhibition.”

LAW Showcase at Cromwell Place is open to the public from Friday, 2nd July through to Friday, 9th July, with opening times Wednesday through Saturday 10am – 6pm, and 10am - 4pm on Sundays. Monday and Tuesday are by appointment only.www.londonartweek.co.uk www.cromwellplace.com
