museum in progress (www.mip.at) wurde 1990 mit dem Ziel gegründet, neuartige Präsentationsformen für zeitgenössische Kunst zu entwickeln. Die Realisierung von Projekten erfolgt jeweils auf der Basis von Kooperationen zwischen Wirtschaft, Kunst und Medien.
Die Ausstellungstätigkeit von museum in progress konzentriert sich auf mediale und öffentliche Räume. Dabei werden beispielsweise Zeitungen, Magazine, Plakatflächen, Gebäudefassaden, Fernsehen, das Internet und Konzertsäle genutzt. Die von museum in progress ausgestellten Kunstwerke sind medienspezifisch, kontextabhängig und temporär. Durch die Arbeitspraxis des Vereins wird die Distanz von Alltagsrealität und Kunstort überwunden und ein weit größeres Publikum als von traditionellen Museumsinstitutionen erreicht.

The exhibition activity of museum in progress concentrates on media and public spaces. For example newspapers, magazines, billboards, building fronts, television, the internet and concert halls are used. The works of art exhibited by museum in progress are specifically created for the medium, dependent on the context and temporary. This working technique enables museum in progress to overcome the distance between everyday life and places of art as well as to reach a far larger public than traditional museums.
